Natural Catastrophe

I found myself wanting a natural catastrophe just to have you speak to me

We staggered in words about the winter storm. The weather is always the best icebreaker, isn’t it? It was cold and isolating but eventually the ice melted, or so it felt. Then came that ruthless homicide. I guess you meant to say you were okay. I’m still very unsure. It only reminded me how uncertain not only life can be, but the uncertainties of things taken for granted – like easy conversation. I reminisce back to the sweet days when words flowed and weren’t premeditated upon. Funny how tragedies bring people together, or in our case, reveals the truth. I found myself wanting a natural catastrophe just to have you speak to me. Was it that serious? Not entirely, but it had become so. What came to life were the underlying issues that no one really knew existed. And just like with anything else, we all have a choice in how we choose to respond to life and those around us.
